Name: Saguru Hakuba
Canon: Detective Conan/Magic Kaito
Timeline: Following chapter 733 of Detective Conan and the newest releases of Magic Kaito (despite the fact that Hakuba is technically present in neither of those...)

Canon Resource Link: The White Knight

Personality: At first glance Hakuba is a very neat and meticulous individual. His dress is immaculate, his words and actions precise, and he values punctuality to an almost unholy degree. He finds emotions and human interaction messy and unreliable, perhaps due to his early introduction to the darker side of the human experience (he has, in time, been exposed to so many murders that his pet hawk Watson will recognize and immediately be drawn to the scent of human blood). As a result, he finds people and their motivations difficult to understand.

When he is first introduced in Magic Kaito he has a habit of asking the criminals he catches "Why do you do it?" Where other detectives in the series will use motive as a piece of the puzzle to solving a crime, Hakuba is forced to rely on other methods to find the answer. For this reason, Hakuba will rarely rely on instinct, more content to think things through fully before he acts.

Luckily for Hakuba, he tends to think very quick on his feet.

Hakuba is the practical sort, not at all taken to whimsy. When solving crimes he deals with the concrete evidence, things you can hold and touch, rather than immaterial things such as motives or emotions. He's methodical. Whatever task Hakuba sets himself to, he finishes, and finishes well, right, and proper.

He's determined and stubborn, but in a quiet, steady way that doesn't force his will onto others, rather, simply refuses to let others force their will upon him. He's not quick to change his mind about things, which can be both a detriment or aide him in his investigations, as he is not wont to be distracted and can parse information down to the tiniest detail; in one night, he was able to narrow down the identity of Kid by knowing his blood type, height, weight, and general age. Basically, he's a born researcher.

He is a highly intelligent, and has a deeply analytical mind. As a talented detective, Hakuba observes all the finite details of a case and manages to piece them together into a solution. His eyes rarely miss a thing even if, as is often the case in regards to the human element, he doesn't quite understand what the detail might mean.

However, all of this means that he can be rather fussy and worry too much over the details, if he lets himself. Hakuba has a bad tendency to obsess and an inclination towards perfectionism that means he is constantly overly critical and judgmental of himself. He always thinks that he can do better. When he surrounds himself with positive, supportive individuals like Aoko, however, he does much better. Due to his extensive studies in the realms of psychology and the like, Hakuba is all too aware of the weak points and usually he can spot and try and temper them himself. He's getting better at it every single day.

Powers & Abilities: Uh...none. Unless you count a brilliant investigative mind and the strange ability to keep exact time. Or, you know, if being pretentious and British is a power.

What items will they be bringing with them to Discedo? His grandfather's pocket watch, a pair of police issued handcuffs, and a small handgun (but with no extra ammo, besides what's already in the gun).

Posting Samples
Third-Person Sample: Hakuba had heard about Chat Noir challenging Kaitou Kid from Aoko before the news ever hit the European periodicals. While Kaitou Kid had once been an international jewel thief on Interpol's radar, in the past year and a half since his rebirth he had stuck strictly to the greater Tokyo area in Japan (yet more evidence as to the real identity of Kaitou Kid, even if it was all strictly circumstantial) and as a result interest in him abroad had waned.

Aoko, on the other hand, was a veritable fountain of information in Hakuba's absence ever since he'd decided to take a short mental health holiday in Paris to clear his head over this whole Kaito thing. She kept him informed of the kids at their school - people who had barely bothered to get to know him beyond the superficial glamour of an exotic transfer student, and Kaito, of course. Of Kid trying to steal a clock tower, which wasn't terribly subtle on Kaito's part in his opinion but it was a nice gesture nonetheless so Hakuba wasn't going to call him out on it. And about that Shinichi Kudo fellow who had apparently grown bored with murders and decided to try his hand at a phantom thief.

(He'd already heard as much from her father, directly following the incident, after he'd called Hakuba up to rant and yell at him about upstart kids who poked their nose where it didn't belong, and Hakuba simply nodded along and made agreeable sounds at appropriate times and didn't have the heart to remind the detective that he was technically one such 'upstart kid'.)

So when she called him up that week to tell him all about the new thief that had thrown down the gauntlet to Kid, Hakuba was intrigued, and began to do some digging; he soon realized that there was far more going on underneath the surface. Hakuba sat in his hotel room with sheets of data splayed out in front of him and thought about Kaito, who knew French but liked to pretend that he didn't, who was a fair enough researcher when given the time and resources, but who wouldn't have any idea where the right places were to look this time around. He pulled out his phone and placed a call.

"It's been awhile." He said, smiling to himself when Kaito answered. "Are you still alive?"

First-Person Sample: [Video]

[When the video feed switches on there is a faint, spider's web line across the center of the image, as if the lens of the camera itself is cracked.]

[Hakuba is looking slightly less put together than is his norm, hair askew and coat jacket bundled tightly around one of his hands, obscuring it completely from view. His shirt sleeves are rolled up to his elbows and the look he's giving the device could almost be considered bemused, under the circumstances.]

Somehow when the note said "use this", I don't imagine it meant as a blunt weapon. While I'm certain it's far too much to ask for the proper authorities to be called in this situation as that would rather contradict my being here in the first place, I don't suppose it could be too outrageous to request some sort of bandages or antiseptic, could it?

[He frowns slightly as a thought occurs to him and tightens the jacket around his hand a little bit more.] I'm not going to need some form of tetanus or rabies shot after being bitten by one of these... creatures, will I?
